Chesapeake Bay

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation began in 1967. They are one of many large water body foundations that advocates for the waters they represent with a key focus on algae reduction. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation approach relates to Lake Erie because they have been successful in having a USEPA led an accountable nutrient reduction approach with a periodic report card to the public. These nutrient reduction efforts are still underway, but they are realizing successes. The oyster business in Chesapeake Bay was gone for over a decade, but in recent years is recovering because of water quality improvements.
